Birthdays and Blizzards

Last week we enjoyed some great skiing on the slopes of the Espace Killy. This photo was taken in Tignes on our way to the “Eye of the Needle”, a famous rock formation that everyone likes to have a photo with. We took our photo on Friday 13th, but it certainly wasn’t unlucky for us!

We recently had the pleasure of the Millar party staying with us at the Chalet Balias who were on their first ski holiday to Val d’Isere. After their journey up the mountain, the guys settled into the chalet and warmed up with a nice cup of tea and big slice of cake. After regaining their energy the party dipped into some canapés and champagne before being served a delicious four course meal by Chef Tom.

On the Friday of their arrival we were lucky enough to be hosting a very special birthday party for one of our guests! With balloons and decorations offering a celebratory atmosphere we lit the candles and gave our best rendition of Happy Birthday. After a scrumptious meal the guys headed out to take in the evening delights of Val d’Isere, a nice walk through the centre of the town where all the lights and snow made for a magical evening.

In the following days, Val d’Isere was treated to its first real blizzard! Winds reached 60km per hour and we had huge snowfalls of over half a metre in just a couple of days. The town even had to be closed down for the evening by the local police. Upon hearing this, the Millar’s settled in for the night, and with games and wine on the agenda, the party certainly went on for a while! Overnight, wind and snow changed the look of Val d'Isere with paths being blown away completely. However we are glad to report that all is back to normal now and with blue skies forecasted for next week and with great snowfall behind us, conditions for the days ahead are fantastic.
