A snowy weekend in Courchevel for the UK Team

Posted: Tuesday 24th January 2012 by laldridge

On the 7th December, myself (Amy) and my colleague Anita were lucky enough to escape the Flexiski head office to travel out to Courchevel 1850 for a short ski break in the Hotel Saint Louis before the beginning of the season.

Having had little snow in the build up to December, the surrounding mountains had been looking worryingly green and there was little promise of getting any skiing done whilst out in Courchevel. However, the snow gods were looking down on us and we arrived in resort to be welcomed by two feet of fresh snow and not a blade of grass in sight.

Despite the huge downfall of snow and the piste bashers running tirelessly through the night, only a couple of the main ski lifts in Courchevel were open during that time. However, on the plus side this meant that the slopes were empty with plenty of fresh tracks to be made, and it certainly beats being in Surbiton!

With bright sunshine and fresh powder, Courchevel was looking its very best and after an enjoyable morning on the slopes we stopped to refuel at the Hotel Saint Louis’ terrace restaurant - La Terrasse. Ok, we are a little biased, but La Terrasse really does provide an ideal lunch stop. Set just off the Bellecote piste, the restaurant serves a mouth-watering selection of reasonably priced alpine cuisine from French Onion Soup to stone-baked pizzas, with prices starting around €5.

It was great getting to know the staff at the Hotel Saint Louis and being able to put a ‘face to the name’ as we speak to them on a daily basis. The hotel has a great atmosphere and the food is of a really high standard. Three days of skiing was certainly needed in order to work off the extra pounds gained through over-indulging on the daily cooked breakfast, afternoon tea and five-course evening meals!

Our last night at the hotel was a Friday and so we were lucky enough to experience the live performance by Bring Your Sisters. Bring Your Sisters are a well-known après-ski band in the Three Valleys area and the Hotel Saint Louis are privileged to have them as their resident après-ski band. They will be playing at the hotel every Friday night throughout the season with things getting going around 5pm for a couple of hours of lively entertainment before dinner!

We were both really sad to be leaving the snowy peaks of Courchevel 1850 but rest assured, we will be back to the Hotel Saint Louis at any given opportunity…besides there are three more pizzas on the La Terrase menu which need sampling.

Thanks to the Hotel Saint Louis for a great stay.
