April skiing
Posted: Wednesday 2nd April 2008 by Chalet Bornian Staff
We had a fantastic day at Grand Montets yesterday with the sun shining and great skiing conditions all round...again, it's so hard to believe we are now into April. Chamonix seems to be getting quieter now, which is fantastic for those who are lucky enough to book last minute ski holidays and beneft from fantastic Spring-time skiing conditions.

A little on the pink side...
Posted: Monday 31st March 2008 by Chalet Bornian Staff
The beauty of yesterday was not simply the fact that the sun was shining without a cloud in the sky, nor the fact that we still have great snow conditions but that Brevent opened a little late, just as we arrived in fact, so we enjoyed a wonderfully quiet mountain which rendered the enormity of the surroundings. It was simply stunning but unfortunately I have come away a little pink so I am thankful it is snowing today so there is no danger of it getting worse!!

Another beautiful day at Le Tour
Posted: Saturday 29th March 2008 by Chalet Bornian Staff
Got up to the top of the mountain to look back at the Chamonix valley with not a cloud in the sky. The guests I was out with took some fantastic pictures of the impressive Mont Blanc. Perfectly groomed pistes, nice fresh powder off the sides and a great lunch, what more could you ask for..... and more snow forecast over the next coming days. Perfect.

It just gets better...
Posted: Friday 28th March 2008 by Chalet Bornian Staff
We were all very pleased to see the sunshine yesterday at Le Tour depsite the forecast saying snow and cloud all day. It was snowing nice and thick but with surprisingly good visibility and minimal wind so this added to a sense of occasion as we all enjoyed arguably the best conditions all season so far. After a clear weekend it is predicted a heavy snowfall Sunday evening so we are looking forward to more fresh tracks in the powder early next week - it doesn't get much better than this!!

The snow just keeps coming!
Posted: Wednesday 26th March 2008 by Chalet Bornian Staff
It's hard to believe that we are approaching April - the snow just keeps coming with intermittent spouts of sunshine and so we are prepared for anything at the moment! All were in agreement yesterday that we would take better snow and less visibility over a sunny day with lesser conditions, which is what we have at the moment. More snow is forecast over the next few days with sunshine over the weekend leading to a big dump Sunday night.

Now we know why the French call it 'le surf'...
Posted: Monday 24th March 2008 by Chalet Bornian Staff
What an amazing past few days we have had here in Chamonix. The snow is unbelievably soft and the off-piste is powder heaven - we went down an unpisted slope at Flegere which made me realise why the French refer to Boarding as 'Surfing'. It really felt as though we were weightless as we glided down, making our own fresh tracks - there is no better feeling. This isn't powder; this is like the Atlantic Ocean in snow-form!!

Let it snow!
Posted: Monday 17th March 2008 by Chalet Bornian Staff
After watching it romantically snow in Chamonix town late last night, we all went to bed with excitement knowing that today would prove to be lots of fun on the mountain! Despite it snowing all day the visibility was pretty good and we all had a challenging yet rewarding day in the awesome soft powder...it's easy to be brave when falling doesn't hurt!! We were reminded of St Paddy's day when we saw a group of skiers in bright green leprechaun outfits whom we used as opposed to trees as reference to get down the mountain as they lit up the slopes!
Tomorrow is forecast blue skies so we are all getting an early night to be up on the first lift!

The run of the season?
Posted: Sunday 16th March 2008 by Chalet Bornian Staff
After a pleasant day on the slopes at Grand Montets we were about to head back to the car park, despite having a reservation for the Grand Montets cable car (3275m) which had been closed all morning. However, we noticed that the cable car had just opened at that moment so we headed up. After a windy start, we headed down the beginning of the black run and popped off piste to the right, which proved to be the nicest, easiest, never-ending powder run we have had all season - beautiful! A truly unforgetable day.

Snow is on the way!
Posted: Sunday 24th February 2008 by Chalet Bornian Staff
Made the most of our "Mont Blanc Unlimited" passes this week by heading through the tunnel to Courmayeur. After a short drive (20 mins) we popped out into Italy and enjoyed some fantastic skiing and snowboarding over there. With the sun still shining, we have all been skiing without jackets these past few days. It's hard to believe that snow is on the way but the forecast looks very promising for the back end of the week. Looking forward to some fun powder days and a wee top-up for the pistes.

Clouds...we have CLOUDS!!
Posted: Wednesday 20th February 2008 by Chalet Bornian Staff
Personally, I had a fabulous hour today on the slopes. Can't help but wonder why people are heading off piste where conditions are not ideal, when there are perfectly good times to be had on-piste. It's still quite warm, despite a few clouds today, promising snow showers. Fingers crossed.
