Deep, dry, fluffy powder in St Anton!
Posted: Monday 8th February 2010 by amalien
The last week St Anton has finally had the decent snow fall that it has been calling out for. With over a foot of snow at resort level, everyone has been eager to get out in the powder bowls. This morning the clouds have parted in two to reveal beautiful blue skies and glorious sunshine that washes over the dusted peaks of St Anton - which can surely only excite the Amalien Haus guests as they look out of the window at the peak of Kapal today. No doubt, the obvious routes will be tracked out by lunch time, but those who are willing to explore a little further with a Ski Event Manager will be deeply rewarded with the substance that dreams are made of for days to come; deep, dry, fluffy powder!
Over the last week St Anton has been filled with a large number of different groups, all of whom have kept themselves busy with some of the fantastic scene that St Anton has to offer. Taking full advantage of the great conditions, Friday morning Tom, St Anton’s Ski Event Manager, took one of our groups up to Rendl, where the runs had been pisted the previous night before being generously dusted with a blanket of snow, leaving runs of powder that everyone could enjoy from the most experienced skiers to those who prefer a steadier pace on the slopes. By 11am it was time to ski down the red run, R1, right from the top of the Gampergbahn. It is one of those memorable runs that twists and turns through the trees undulating with the relief of the mountain for 5km before arriving graciously back into St. Anton.
A quick ride up the Galzig gondola and the group settled into the Verwall Stube restaurant - Austria’s highest toque-awarded restaurant and also offers a panoramic view of the valley. Unfortunately due to the overcast weather, the group’s eyes were kept firmly on the exceptional food that came to the table. From saddles of red berry marinated venison to sauted winter vegetable salad or lobster filled ravioli - no one was disappointed, nor by the delicious red wine from the Pesqura region. That left the group feeling full, content, but waning and a gentle ski was in order back down through Happy Valley.
With the sunshine set to last for a good few days yet, the great skiing is set to continue.
We hope you can come and enjoy us soon.
