Half term arrivals from far and wide...
Posted: Wednesday 17th February 2010 by amalien
Sunday saw the arrival of people from all over Europe who have come to make the most of half term week with their family and friends. As such, the resort is very busy, but thanks to the ultra efficient Galzigbahn and the new Rendlbahn gondolas, the queues will be kept to a minimum compared to the foot numbing waiting that is experienced in most resorts at this time of year! The Amalien Haus is full to the top with a variety of families mostly staying for the whole week.
Tom, flexiski’s resident Ski Event Manager, took a group of the families out for their “Ski Orientation Day” on Monday and showed them the best pistes St Anton has to offer. Being the first day of half term, obviously the morning rush was unavoidable, well, almost! Tom took the group straight up the Rendl to try and avoid some of the rush where the pistes were that little bit less mad than the runs that lead off from the top of the Galzigbahn. A particular favourite for the morning was from the top of lifts Rifle 1 and 2 on the ski route that lulls its way around the side of Rendl right from the top where you can look over to the rest of the ski area in St Anton and to the mountains far and beyond. By the time the group had made their way back down from Rendl to St Anton the queues were long gone and a quick ride up into the mountains was enjoyed in Galzig. A short ski down blue piste 8 into St Christoph ended the morning before a lazy lunch enjoyed by all at the Hospiz Alm in St Christoph, where it felt more like a beach holiday than one of skiing! Even those who had previously informed Tom they weren’t eating lunch couldn’t resist the temptations on offer, especially the “Grilled Chicken Breast Salad” served with lashings of vinaigrette and freshly salted radishes! After a longer than anticipated lunch, the afternoon skiing was somewhat limited to a few gentle runs back to the Amalien Haus where everyone enjoyed a good cup of tea and some freshly baked chocolate gateaux cake covered with a thick oozy glaze of ganache….
Friday is meant to end this week’s blue sky spell with a good dump of snow which will set us up nicely for the week to come!
