The legendary Taps race...
Posted: Wednesday 7th April 2010 by amalien
After a week of what felt like summer weather here in St Anton, the past week has provided a plentiful dump of fresh powder just in time for Easter. The temperatures dropped to well below zero and in 24 hours over a foot of snow fell on the Arlberg, once again leaving St Anton picture perfect. Things are starting to slow down in resort and the traditions for the end of season have commenced. Monday evening was the closing night of Piccadilly’s – playing live acoustic music getting even the most reserved of people up and dancing. The closing night was no different, in fact, it was even more eminent. Everyone showed up to wish Piccadilly's well for another year, making sure that the bar went out with the same panache that it had demonstrated for the whole season.
Yesterday saw the legendary “Taps” race on the lower slopes of St Anton. With over a dozen categories, the participants raced from “Taps” bar adjacent to the “Krazy Kangaruh” down to the centre on St Anton at the Galzig lift. The scene was more reminiscent of a beach than a ski resort, with people catching the glorious rays. As the competitors shot down the slalom course people lapped up the buzz that St Anton is known for. The bar stayed open until 11pm enabling all to enjoy the ski down in the dark back to the centre of town to rest a little before getting up and doing it all over again.
It is memories like these that make St Anton one of the best and most returned to resorts in the world.
