St Anton... another day in paradise!

Posted: Wednesday 14th April 2010 by amalien

This weekend saw the arrival of more guests to the Amalien Haus and on Saturday, the Gray’s and the Jennings party joined me, St Anton’s Ski Event Manager, for their ski orientation session. With the end of the season near, the very best of the skiing to be had each day is first thing in the morning, and as such we all hit the first lift over to Zürs - 400 metres higher than St Anton boasting firm snow every morning. With the sun beating down on our faces and the piste freshly groomed underneath our feet there was nothing that was going to stop us as we made the journey over to Lech and Zürs. The first run to be enjoyed was from the top of the Rüfikopf cable car in Lech skiing down into Zürs along the red piste, which is probably my favourite piste in the Arlberg. It is more reminiscent of a rollercoaster than a piste flowing up and down over a variety of rollers - you can’t help but arrive at the bottom with a smile on your face!

The skiing continued over on the other side of the valley in Zürs to Zug, passing through the Madloch. After sweeping down to the village of Zug, in what was the last of the best of the morning, we hopped on the 2 man chair lift that ascends up over Zug to a view point that rivals that seen from the majority of plane windows. On the very top of the peak sits a brilliant restaurant called “Balmalp” – the type that you simply can’t help but stare in wonder at. We sat there with ice cool bottles of Riesling and the sun reflecting off the cool beads of condensation forming around the rim of our glasses. Before long, two pizzas arrived at the table, larger than the tyres of a car covered in freshly sliced tyrolean ham, parmesan, salamis, sun dried tomatoes and plump olives. Everyone tucked in without hesitation and before long the masterpieces were demolished.

Lunch time had come and gone, and all that was left of the day was to ski down to the village in Lech before heading back to St Anton for one last quick refresher before returning to the Amalien Haus for pre-dinner drinks and canapés.

Just another day in paradise for the staff and guests of the Amalien Haus in St. Anton.
