St Anton, the freeride heaven...

Posted: Friday 5th March 2010 by amalien

Yesterday, St Anton and the whole of the Arlberg ski region was blessed with some much needed snow. Unfortunately, that meant that the visibility throughout the day varied making navigation through the maze very difficult for most. Fortunately for the guests at the Amalien Haus, Tom, resident Ski Event Manager was on hand with a Ski Orientation Day leading them through the white out conditions! Most of the Murrell party didn’t make it out of bed before lunch, and only a few joined Tom at first, but that was soon to change when the party were advised of the lunch stop at the Hospiz Alm in St Christoph, when suddenly most had a change of heart and scooted up the Galzig gondola from St Anton before a quick ski down blue piste 8 to the Hospiz where they were welcomed by the blazing open fire and war m atmosphere. After platters of American chicken wings, ribs slowly roasted in a barbeque glaze, and a selection of home cut potato wedges, the only thing left to complete the meal (and the day for most!) was a magnum (or two) of Zwiegelt from the biggest large bottle collection in Europe.

Today the clouds have departed in St Anton, leaving our guests to enjoy the fresh powder and groomed pistes. One of the freeride shops in St Anton is holding a “battle” (a freeride competition), the legendary Kirschbaum Battle is taking place in the snow park in Rendl and is the epitome of why St Anton is known as the “Freeride Heaven of the Alps”. Thanks to the Arlberger Bergbahnen, the St Anton lift company, it was possible to bring QParks, the biggest snow park operator in the Alps, on board for the season 09/10 transforming the existing fun park at the Rendl into the “St Anton Park” and to create a playground for all freestyle fans.

The “Kirschbaum Battle” promises, once again, to be a first class event and the guests from the Amalien Haus will be there to watch all the action!
