St Anton's "Best Handmade Arts and Crafts Fair"...

One of the many surprises of spending a season in a ski resort, especially one as lively and vibrant as St Anton, is the various episodes that occur throughout, with the busy pre-Christmas period, the merriment of New Year festivities, the quieter, yet great snow conditions of January, the folly of half term week and the electric atmosphere as we head towards Easter! It is almost as if there are a number of different seasons within the season!

This week the St Anton high street is being occupied with the “Best Handmade Arts and Crafts Fair” made up of 15 internationally renowned artists and crafters who are presenting their work in the pedestrian area of St Anton. The crafters range from homemade soaps and beauty products, to individually crafted jewellery and local produce, including typical Austrian cheese and Tyrolean cured meats! The market is here in St Anton until the end of the week and will certainly make our new guests feel welcome as they are shown around the resort by Tom, the resident Ski Event Manager in St Anton.

However, it is not only visitors to St Anton who will be celebrating this week; Mario Matt, owner of the renowned “Krazy Kangaruh” and 11 times World Champion Slalom Skier, will be celebrating as his younger brother, Andreas Matt, returns to the podium in the Vancouver Winter Olympics to receive a Silver Medal at the men’s ski cross race - only a year after becoming world champion in Korea in 2009! Needless to say, the locals of St Anton are very proud and the atmosphere in the Krazy Kangaruh is somewhat celebratory!
