Zooming around the pistes of Lech, Zurs and Zug...

Posted: Thursday 11th March 2010 by amalien

Today the Amalien Haus has seen the departure of the Chapman group who will be sorely missed thanks to their endless banter and frolics. On Tuesday the group enjoyed a fantastic day zooming around the pistes of Lech, Zurs and Zug whilst completing the White Circuit. The day was thoroughly enjoyed by all and encompassed a wide range of memories including lunch at over 2500m in the “Balm Alp” restaurant that overlooks three different valleys where we enjoyed 60” pizzas whilst admiring the view. We settled into après ski in the Hotel Tannbergerhof seated at the best table in the bar right in front of the three tenors with Gluhwein and a jolly eclectic compilation of Austrian classics and modern favourites.

Yesterday the fun continued with a visit to the infamous Mooserwirt for lunch where the group enjoyed a “Royal Ostrich Egg” – similar to the typical Austrian dish "Tyrolean Grostl" but served with an enormous Ostrich egg and accompanied by a three litre bowl of Erdinger Wheat Beer to share between the unsuspecting guests around the table. An hour and a whole lot of food later and the group left the Mooserwirt for a sedate ascension to the highest point in the Arlberg. To do this, firstly we took the Galzig, then Valulla I, followed by the tiny and inconspicuous Valluga II. From there the group could see for hundreds of miles in a dizzying 360 degree panoramic view. After the inevitable team photo and a short trip back down in Valluga II, most continued their descent by gondola rather than joining Tom down the steep and deep ski route from the top of Valluga. Upon arrival back in St Anton, we were all keen for a refreshment or two in Piccadilly’s where reserved tables awaited our arrival accompanied by live music from the legendary “Gunar”.

What a way to spend their last day in one of the best resorts in the world! If only life could be full of days like these...
