Many people are attracted to Chamonix purely for a glimpse of the awesome scenery, however the resort has much more to offer for you on your short ski break or skiing holiday. Host to the very first Winter Olympics in 1924, Chamonix is a large resort with a reputation as a hub for mountaineers and hardcore skiers.

Chamonix offers all visitors on their short ski break or traditional skiing holiday views across the valley to Mont Blanc and the Aiguille du Midi from the linked Brevent and Flegere areas that are simply stunning. Located within quick and easy access of Geneva, Chamonix is the perfect choice of resort for a short ski break.

beginners and intermediates
Beginners can enjoy the nursery slopes at Les Chosalets, Les Planards, Le Savoy and La Vormaine perfect to ease your way back into skiing or work on your technique. The Chamonix Le Pass ski pass covers the valley floor making it great for anyone learning to ski in Chamonix, this pass is also great for intermediates who are well catered for with a selection of easy blue runs and steeper, narrower red runs throughout La Brevent, La Flegere, Le Tour and Grand Montets.

advanced and off piste
Advanced skiers should buy the Mont Blanc ski pass which covers all the beginner and intermediate areas along with the top station of Grand Montets providing some of the most exhilirating black runs. The area of La Tour also has some magnificent undiscovered advanced skiing opportunities including the back of the Tete de Balme which offers experts tree skiing. Other areas included on the pass are Montenvers train, Les Houches and the Tramway du Mont Blanc.

Chamonix has some exhilirating off piste itineraries available and most notoriously the Aguille du Midi where the Vallee Blanche ski run begins. The Vallee Blanche is the longest off piste route in the world, long and with 3000m of vertical descent it’s a trip you’re guaranteed to remember. Off piste skiers should also head to Grand Montets for some of the best itineraries in the French Alps including the Grand Mur. Alternativelty for glacier descents visit the Glacier Argentiere.

apres ski
Chamonix is quite a spread out resort with a metropolitan feel. There are two squares with cobbled pedstrianised streets with a selection of shops, cafes, bars and restaurants to choose from. These areas give the Chamonix an upmarket feel although generally the apres ski here is quite relaxed with a lot of live music played throughout the week.
