40cm of fresh powder snow!
Posted: Monday 29th March 2010 by Val dIsere
40cm of snow fell in Méribel last night so we awoke to incredible piste conditions. The England party – Will, Hugo, Rich and Freddie, who have been staying in Chalet Leonardo for the last few days, took full advantage of this and I, flexiski’s resident Ski Event Manager, took them on their ski orientation day. We headed into the Saint Martin de Belleville valley and skied the Jerusalem run… twice! Most runs were not pisted so it was quite hard going on our legs so after a quick café au lait break at the Chardon Bleu (opposite the Saint Martin 2 chairlift) to recover, we headed to Courchevel 1650. Sadly the sun was not shining so we ate inside the Bel Air mountain restaurant at the top of the Ariondaz bubble lift. We all ordered the plat du jour which was beef bourgignon and absolutely delicious! The clouds began to close in during lunch so we had a gentle ski back to Méribel and enjoyed a cup of tea and slice of cake in the Chalet Leonardo!
More snow is forecast for the next few days so our new arrivals can enjoy the same fantastic powder. Méribel continues to host great events to keep the Easter holidaymakers entertained with the British Alpine Ski Championships on Sunday when the top British skiing talent compete on Méribel’s pistes. Méribel Alpina is offering two unusual events this coming Thursday. For early birds, there is an early opening of Roc de Fer and Olympic chairlifts allowing you to make first tracks on Face, Grand Duc and Gelinotte pistes with a Savoy breakfast and later in the day you can visit the snow-making centre.
