British Services International Alpine Ski and Snowboard Championships!
Posted: Thursday 28th January 2010 by leonardo
Chalet Leonardo welcomed their new guests today who were excited to hear about the fresh sprinkling of snow Méribel has received over the last few days. The lower slopes were beginning to get a little icy in the Three Valleys, especially the descent into La Tania, the Moretta and Folyeres pistes, so the fresh blanket couldn’t be better timed.
There is still plenty going on in Méribel to keep our guests entertained. From Saturday 30th until 6th February, British Servicemen and women take part in the annual British Services International Alpine Ski and Snowboard Championships on Méribel’s Olympic slopes. Many of the competitors are on R&R leave from Afghanistan and Iraq so deserve enthusiastic support. Saturday is also 'Magnestic Day', whereby children can ski test the Magnestick system for free. The system uses magnets to attach children safely to chairlifts and also function as a back protector. Various entertainments will also be on offer in Méribel-Mottaret in front of the tourist office including music, ice sculptures and hot drinks.
On Monday 1st you'll have the opportunity to discover what fantastic bits of kit the piste bashers are (they cost the same as a new Ferrari), how they decide what pistes to groom each night and how they find their way in a snowstorm. Every Wednesday morning, the Méribel Moon Park is now offering freestyle lessons free of charge for complete beginners, all the Méribel flexiski team are getting involved so come and witness Darragh's amazing 360s!
We hope you can come and join us!
