A good time to improve your technique with some lessons...

Posted: Thursday 20th January 2011 by leonardo

As the sunny weather continues and our face tans deepen in colour (some more stripy than others!) the clouds have started to build, indicating that a change in weather is coming. All the forecasts show a front moving in bringing with it colder temperatures and the much longed for snow. With Mont Blanc wearing a hat of cloud (always a sign that snow is on it way) the long lunches and sunbathing on the terrace in just a tee-shirt may have to be put on hold for a few days, as there is over 8 centimetres of snow forecast in Meribel between now and the weekend.

In the meantime there are still some softer pistes to be found, many of which are in the Courchevel valley. Closer to home, the beginner areas in Meribel are still in great condition for those starting out and for those at the other end of the scale, a descent down the Meribel Couloir was a nice finish to the end of the day yesterday.

At this point in the season it is often a good time to work on improving your technique with some lessons from the many excellent ski schools in Meribel. With fewer people in resort, class sizes are usually much smaller so you have more of the instructor’s attention (not always a good thing!) and the empty pistes allow you to work on the teaching points without having to constantly avoid other skiers and boarders.

Some fast runs down the likes of Pramint, Jerusalem, Fourne and Combe Saulire give you the chance to try and recreate Ski Sunday as you improve your carving and get a lean on, plus there are always the bumps on Suisses and Chanrossa if you really want a challenge.

A long ski weekend in the Three Valleys or Val d’Isere could mean that you escape the long cold days back home in the UK. With just one holiday day off work this week, you could enjoy the fresh snow we are expecting this week.
