Perfect skiing in Orelle...
Posted: Thursday 7th January 2010 by leonardo
This week’s the weather in Méribel has been the best we’ve seen during the season so far… After having a huge dump of snow on Sunday evening, we’ve seen continuous sunshine both yesterday and today. Despite it being very chilly, we all headed to Orelle (the ‘fourth’ valley) beyond Val Thorens for an adventure. Although Orelle has a small ski area we found fantastic snow conditions and warm sunshine on the Bouchet and Peyron pistes in particular. After a chilly morning we ordered hot chocolates at the new Folie Douce in Val Thorens located just beneath the Plein Sud chairlift and then we visited the La Fruitiere where the manager, Vitto, was kind enough to give us a guided tour.
Our guests in Chalet Leonardo this week are from Russia and are here in Méribel to celebrate the Russian Orthodox Christmas which falls on the 6th January. They enjoyed a torchlight descent and firework display with mulled wine and hot chocolate at La. Within the chalet, we also prepared an extra special supper involving crackers, chocolate roulade and, of course, Russian vodka!
We are looking forward to the weekend as this Saturday Méribel hosts the top level cross-country skiing and riffle shooting in the French Junior Biathlon Cup.
