Blissful sunshine and fresh powder!
Posted: Tuesday 23rd February 2010 by Val dIsere
Val d’Isère has had perfect weather conditions over the weekend, increasing temperatures and blissful sunshine with regular snow coverage during the night. Today is set to be a mixture of increasing snowfall and occasional breaking sun. At present, from Chalet Balias’ window, I can see the first flakes of snow starting to fall over Le Face, but a distant blue sky is slowly making its way over to Val d’Isère.
Val d’Isère is a hive of activity with a range of events for the whole family to enjoy, including air-boarding and even snake ‘gliss’ sledging. The new flood lit sledging slope has opened, the ice rink is now available every evening in the centre of town and the ESF ski school has been putting on weekly demonstrations for both skiers and snowboarders to marvel at from the bottom of Le Face. The centre of Val d’Isère village has been very busy with wonderful local farmers markets and live entertainment including local bands and street performers.
Chalet Balias has had a busy week of guests, with several families making the most of Chalet Balias’ comfy sofas and open fire-place. The Neale's and Blair’s have enjoyed some hard skiing and long lunches across the whole of the Espace Killy and the Reimer’s have re-kindled their love of snowboarding after a 6 year break! James, Chalet Balias’ resident Chef and I, Chalet Balias’ Hostess, have been putting our off-piste skills to the test and hiking off the beaten track most of this week.
The snow conditions are superb and with another dump set to re-fresh the powder in the next 48 hours – the great conditions are going to continue!
