Excitement throughout the Espace Killy resorts...
Posted: Thursday 11th March 2010 by Val dIsere
The weather in Val d’Isère has remained uncertain since last week, with continued cloud cover and intermittent snowfall. Winds have picked up since Sunday, with up to 60km/h recorded at the top of the Grande Motte in Tignes. Temperatures have therefore plummeted from -2 degrees to -20 degrees, making it feel more like early January than March!
Excitement is building throughout the Espace Killy resorts as the final preparations are underway for the much anticipated X Games. Val Claret is bustling with activity as the piste bashers sculpt out an impressive half-pipe with jumps over 20ftt! The snow front has been transformed into a miniature tent-filled village to house the pro-skiers and boarders as they nervously wait to compete, and no doubt recover! The Games will be taking place throughout Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, with a grand finale party on Thursday evening featuring DJ David Guetta.
Chalet Balias’ new guests, the Hill and Lambe parties, arrived on Sunday afternoon to enjoy 7 days of fabulous Val d’Isère skiing and après. Despite never meeting before, everyone is thoroughly enjoying each others company and creating an excellent atmosphere during dinner. I, Chalet Balias’ Hostess, took a few of the guests on a ski orientation day on Monday; taking them from the Bellevarde ski area all the way into Tignes. The guests have since explored a vast area of the Espace Killy range, enjoying the sights and dining delights that many of the mountain restaurants have to offer.
James, Chalet Balias’ resident Chef, and I are looking forward to the arrival of some return guests, the Brinsden party, this coming weekend and the improving weather conditions that are predicted for the coming week.
