Perfectly groomed pistes in Solaise...

Posted: Wednesday 13th January 2010 by Val dIsere

Since Sunday we have had three wonderful blue sky days here in Val d’Isère! The temperatures have been around -7 degrees during the day and -17 degrees at night, with beautiful clear starlit nights. The weather is set to turn with cloud returning and intermittent snowfall expected on Wednesday afternoon as the temperature begins to rise. Early weather predictions are saying that we will have more snowfall into the weekend.

This week we went to the ‘Moris’ pub, situated in the centre of Val d’Isère, to sample the après scene and evening food menu. With its bustling atmosphere, live music and happy hour we had a superb time. The bar was buzzing through-out après, as the resident Val band ‘Mullit’ were playing.

James, Chalet Balias' resident Ski Event Manager, and I have been out tracking down some of the best runs in Val d’Isère. Our top run of the week was the ‘Manchet’, which had some fantastic powder fields either side of the piste and is a very quiet run off the Solaise area, a great suntrap with a selection of well-groomed runs, where skiers of all abilities can ski together. There is also a restaurant at the top of the ‘Solaise Express’, called the ‘Tete de Solaise’, with a mouth-watering a la carte menu and breathtaking views of the valley.

January is definitely the skier’s month with excellent, and ever improving, snow conditions. The view of the Mont Blanc from the top of the ski area is simply stunning and the sunshine means you can ski for longer... and harder!

Hopefully see you soon.
