The wonderful Trois Vallées and a little of Megève...

Posted: Friday 18th December 2009 by Val dIsere

Some of us from the flexiski UK team squeezed in the time last week for an educational resort to France. Our first stop was Méribel to preview the newly refurbished lounge of the Chalet Leonardo. It looked fabulous and refreshed and we were treated to wine tasting in front of the fire by the chalet team.

While in Méribel we decided to try out the early season snow and wow I am so glad we did! Although the snow in Méribel was a little sparse, Val Thorens and Courchevel had more than ample conditions and there were even a few fresh tracks to be had. Jo was treated to a private ski lesson in Courchevel by the New Generation Ski School, and I skied all three valleys with our Overseas Operations Manager, John Grigg, and one of our Ski Event Managers, Rosie Logan.

The Chalet Leonardo team took us to Dicks Tea Bar for its opening party. This was a very convenient night spot - not only two minutes walk from the chalet but right next to an excellent Pizza Express restaurant. We enjoyed a great evening out - music, friends, and a great atmosphere.

We toured lots of the hotels flexiski work with in Le Trois Vallées; such as the Hotels Le Yeti and Allodis in Méribel and hotel des Trois Vallées, des Neiges, Le Saint Roch and New Solarium in Courchevel 1850. Although we preferred the comfort and charm of the Chalet Leonardo! What a shame we didn’t have time to sample its hot tub on the terrace before moving on!

Our next stop was Val d’Isère and the intimate 12-bed Chalet Balias where we were treated to the culinary delights prepared by James Watson. James and Georgie run our Chalet Balias and have spent numerous winter seasons in Val d’Isère which meant we were in very safe hands! We took in some ski racing on one of Val d'Isère's most prominent pistes ‘Le Face’ from the Balias balcony.

Again, we toured more hotels and enjoyed the excellent spa at the Avenue Lodge, a coffee in the cosy bar at Le Blizzard and even took a peek in the rooms of the Italian ski race team who were staying at the Hotel Christiania! As we prepared to leave Val d'Isère the snow started to fall and the excitement could be felt in the air.

Our last stop was the resort of Megève, which was celebrating Christmas in its stunning cobbled town square which was illuminated with Christmas lights. It is a charming resort with a real French feel to it. There was Père Nöel and Vin Chaud (Mulled wine) to keep us all in the festive mood.

We toured Hotel Le Manège and then took a walk through the town to the open air ice skating rink.

We had a very productive trip and it was wonderful to sample the early season snow and experience first hand some of the wonderful holidays we create for you.

We hope you enjoy them as much as we do!

Best wishes,

Holly King
