The X games in glorious sunshine...
Posted: Monday 15th March 2010 by Val dIsere
The storm has passed and glorious blue skies have returned to Val d’Isère. Temperatures have crept back up from -18 degrees to -4 degrees, making skiing more pleasant than in previous weeks. Early weather predictions are indicating that the sun is set to stay into next week, making skiing conditions perfect for our new guests.
Val d’Isère has been particularly quiet in the latter part of the week due to the excitement of the X Games, over in Tignes Val Claret. In the past few weeks we have watched the piste bashers sculpting out an impressive half pipe and monstrous jumps. A miniature VIP village, complete with Jacuzzi hot tub area and sofa lounge were erected to watch the games in comfort. However, James, flexiski’s resident Chef, and I, Chalet Balias’ Hostess, chose to watch it slope side taking in the vibrant atmosphere amongst the crowds and bathing in the sunshine. Both skiers and snowboarders showed impressive style during the competition, ending with a huge concert featuring David Guetta and a fireworks display.
Chalet Balias bid farewell to the Lambe’s and Hill’s this morning, who have left Val d’Isère with some interesting goggle tans and endless memories. We welcomed returning guests, the Brinsden’s, who are back to make the most of the slopes once again. Dinner is chatty and mellow as all of the guests get to know each other and talk about past ski holidays.
James and I are looking forward to another wonderful week in Chalet Balias, as the weather and snow conditions pick up, there’s still plenty to look forward to in Val d’Isère!
