Val d’Isère was born in 1934, since then it has grown beyond all recognition and is now one of the world’s most prestigious and sought after ski resorts. An integral part of the famous ‘Espace Killy’, Val d’Isère links with the large resort of Tignes and offers easy access to more than 300km of beautifully groomed pistes, plus a wealth of exciting and challenging lift-served off-piste itineraries.

Val d’Isere is great for all levels of skiers and with a superb range of accommodation together with the modern and efficient services and infrastructure the resort is also particularly popular for family ski breaks.

beginners and intermediates
Beginnners are well suited in this resort with a nursery slope right in the centre, easily accessible the green runs on Solaise, especially the Madeleine are great for first time skiers, you could even try the longer wide pistes at Col de l'Iseran. As a beginner in Val d'Isere we strongly recommend you join the ski school otherwise you might find yourself on a green run which in any other resort would most definately be a blue or a red. Intermediates are absolutely spoilt for choice in this resort, Bellevarde is the best area to head for with a mixture of long cruising blue and red runs to suit all levels of intermediate skier.

advanced and off piste
The main three ski areas of Bellevard, Solaise and Col de l’Iseran each offer superb terrain for experts. In Val d'Isere you could stick to the red runs and still be satified but Bellevard has some famous black runs including 'le Face' the Olympic downhill run that will thrill even the most experience skier. Head up the first lifts of the day to guarantee the piste is groomed or try your luck in the afternoon and be prepared for moguls.

Val d'Isere is unrivalled by any other European resort for the amount of off piste you'll find. Unsuprisingly with the Espace Killy right on your doorstep you'll find some great glacier runs, amazing off piste descents and great links to Tignes. This is definately one of the best resorts for off piste itineraries and is great for those looking to try it for the first time and incredible for those who already have some experience. Some of the best routes include the Tour du Charvet and the Cols Pers run and thats just in Val d'Isere. We recommend you head to Tignes for a day where you'll benefit from a more open ski area, less skiers on and off the pistes and better links back to the resort.

apres ski
The attractive centre of resort has been developed sympathetically with local materials and has a wide range of apres-ski bars and restaurants that will tantalise your taste buds with gastronmic delights and Savoyard regional dishes. Three restaurants reputed to be the best in Val d'Isere are Le Savoyard, Le Table de l'Ours and the Grand Ourse, each has a reputation for excellent food, gorgeous scenery and a warm atmosphere.

Val d'Isère comes alive at night as its many dazzling bars over flow with a festive atmosphere. Places not to be missed include Dicks T-Bar offering happy hour pints, Cafe Face and the bar of the moment Pier Paul Jack. For those of you looking to have as much fun off the slopes as on, head to the fashionable Graal nightclub where DJs spin the discs until the early hours.
