The Highland Lodge is a two minute walk from the centre of Geilo and home to the most popular bakery in the ski resort. Freshly baked bread and pastry aromas fill the hotel each morning, a perfect start to any day on the mountain. Whilst the bakery booms by morning, when the afternoon rolls around it is transformed into a bustling pizzeria with home-baked pizzas and delicious pasta dishes. Pair this with the dark wood an low lit Nordic style lobby lounge with a roaring fireplace and library or the bar spilling out onto the sun terrace with views down the valley and you can't go far wrong.

There's even an indoor pool, sauna and hot tub as well as a fully functioning spa with well being aplenty. Massaging aside, the hotel is around 700 metres from the ski slopes but if you don't fancy the walk then the free ski shuttle bus stops right outside.

What we like about the Highland Lodge

  • On-site bakery with fresh bread and pastries every morning
  • Indoor pool as well as a sauna, hot tub and the full spa works
  • Long bar with sun terrace and mountain views

Worth knowing

  • The hotel is 750m from the ski lifts, you may find it easier to catch the free shuttle
  • There is a children's soft play area, though it is unsupervised
  • Children's menu and buffets are available for those under 15 years of age

Norwegian style hotel in a ski resort Warsaw, Poland The hotel quite succesfully combines size with a bit of a spirit of a mountain chalet. Wooden decorations and old traditional furniture do the trick very well. The rooms are quite large, clean, not... Rated 4 on TripAdvisor
Nice rooms but understaffed hotel We stayed in a self-catering family apartment -- modern (hotel recently refurbished?), with comfy beds and well equipped kitchen (though the coffee maker was cracked). Balcony outlook was not so good... Rated 3 on TripAdvisor
