Hotel Norefjell Ski & Spa is ski in, ski out in the middle of the slopes surrounded by snow and wilderness. You have pistes for all abilities on your doorstep with the ski lifts a few metres downhill. Ski back to the outdoor hot tubs and catch the sunset with a glass of bubbles soaking in the thermal waters surrounded by snow. Winning Norway's Best Ski Hotel in the World Travel Awards for numerous years the hotel is as stunning as you'd expect. Leather chesterfield type sofas and roaring fires in the lobby bar and plenty of dark wood decadence throughout.

The restaurant is framed by huge panoramic windows so you can enjoy views of Gaustatoppen and the ski slopes whilst sampling the seasonal menu or grab a home-made pizza from the pizzeria. There's even a 16 metre climbing wall beside reception and an ice rink during the winter months. But perhaps the piece de resistance is the award-winning spa spanning over two floors with ice showers, foot baths, saunas and hot tubs as well as a swimming pool, gym and outdoor hot pools. Inspired by the Nordic nature the spa aims to restore and rebalance your physical as well as mental health (we agree).

What we like

  • Ski in, ski out location at mid-mountain level, get the lifts up of slopes down each morning
  • Extensive spa area with brilliantly positioned outdoor hot tubs - multiple time winner of best spa hotel in Norway
  • Amazing decor that really complements the surrounding nature (cliché but true)
  • The climbing wall at reception

Worth knowing

  • The top floor spa is an additional cost but if you book just one treatment, you get access to the spa for the duration of your stay
  • There is a ski rental, ski prep room and place to buy lift passes on site
  • There's a children's activity room and they put on special events during the holidays
  • You can choose from the 244 hotel rooms or 161 apartments for a bit more space and freedom
