Resort overview

Spectacularly situated at the foot of the Matterhorn, surrounded by 38 peaks over 4,000m, Zermatt has everything you could wish for on and off the slopes. Iconic scenery, fantastic skiing, dynamic nightlife and world-class mountain restaurants ensure Zermatt remains popular with visitors from around the world.

The charming chocolate box village is mainly traffic free with the exception of the electronic cars and horse drawn carriages. The centre of the resort combines a wonderful mix of traditional buildings and cobbled streets with modern amenities and shops to suit all tastes.

Skiing in the resort

The village itself sits at 1620m but with the Matterhorn Glacier reaching 3883m, Zermatt boasts the highest slopes in the Alps. The pistes are extremely well groomed and Zermatt's snow reliability is excellent due to its high altitude and great snowmaking facilities.

Zermatt’s ski area is spread over four main sectors and extends to the neighbouring Italian resort of Cervinia, so enjoy breakfast in Switzerland before popping over to Italy for lunch.

Ski holidays in Zermatt are particularly suited to adventurous intermediates with mile after mile of beautiful red runs. Advanced skiers can enjoy a number of thrilling mogul fields and some great off-piste when the conditions are right. For those seeking an extra challenge, heli-skiing in Zermatt is extremely popular, especially the classic run from the 4250m peak of Monte Rosa which descends 2300m through wonderful glacier scenery.

Après ski

Après-ski in Zermatt offers an informal yet sophisticated atmosphere. There are some lively places to stop on your final descent down the mountain or once in resort there is something for everyone, ranging from the bustling nightspot of the Post Hotel with its 4 restaurants and 5 bars, to the more gourmet dining experience at the Corbeau d’Or in the Hotel Mirabeau.
