5 Reasons To Ski In St Anton This Spring

In April, with minds focusing on summer destinations, a spring trip to the mountains can often be overlooked. However, there are still plenty of reasons why the end of the season is one of the best times to come skiing in St Anton.

As the season draws to a close, staff and visitors alike take the opportunity to bathe in the sunshine and work on that goggle tan. But don’t think for one minute that serious skiing cannot be found! It’s not uncommon to see plenty of snow in April and past seasons have surprised us with some great powder days enjoyed in blue skies and pleasant temperatures. These blue bird days provide the perfect opportunity to take an off-piste guide to seek out the best of the spring snow.

April also brings an abundance of activities in St Anton. The annual ‘Taps Race’ is hosted by the Taps apres-ski bar and is a huge highlight, where teams compete for the fastest slalom time on a course prepared by Ski Schule Arlberg. This year, our Flexiski team from the Amalien Haus took to the course and achieved 19th place out of a possible 35. We didn’t think that was too bad considering the level of local professionals involved! Additionally, our very own Emma Thyer made us proud with an individual placing of 6th in the girls snowboarding category. After the prize giving and a performance from the live band, the party continued long into the night leaving everyone involved raving about it for days.

Another highlight of spring in St Anton is Der Weisse Rausch (The White Thrill) where hundreds of people simultaneously race down from Valluga to the finish line. The first to take off their skis and clamber over a snow mound will be the one to claim victory.

As a different bar closes each night, St Anton becomes host to its renowned closing parties with Bar Cuba, Piccadilly and Scotties being some of the biggest. However, the Krazy Kanguruh closing party is definitely the one not to be missed!
