Our Favourite Après Ski Spots In Meribel

From laid-back live music to boot-stomping DJ sets, Meribel's après ski scene has a lot going on.

Ski in, ski out terraces are home to the early action before the party moves down into the bars in town. From there, you could carry on until dawn if the mood takes you. We’re certainly advocates for straight-off-the-slope après here at flexiski and Meribel certainly delivers in this arena. You’ll have numerous get-up-on-the-table style slopeside bars to choose from in Meribel as well as plenty with great views for chilled drinks as the sun sets.

When you get down into town the party carries on until the early hours with live music playing all over the place. Live music is one of the best things about Meribel après ski and the resort certainly won't disappoint on this front. Numerous bars in Meribel have live bands performing every day of the week.

And, if you want to reserve your energy until after the sun goes down, there are plenty of late-night venues to sample here, too. We’ve put together a rundown of our favourite après ski spots both on and off the mountains in Meribel.

The best spots for après ski in Meribel:

1. Folie Douce Meribel-Courchevel

Huge outside party terraces are a Meribel mainstay. This Ibiza-style après ski venue is situated right on the slopes and packed with acrobats, dancers, singers and musicians from three to five pm. Originally launched in Val d'Isere, the Folie Douce is now a world renowned après brand. The typically younger crowd really gets going as they dance along to high octane performances under sprays of champagne.

You’ll recognise their style of upbeat jazz as soon as you walk in, there are numerous bars around the terrace as well as inside and it's certainly not uncommon to see people lounging around sipping huge magnums of fizz in fur-clad jackets and shiny moon boots. Open from eleven in the morning, the Folie Douce serves up fantastic coffee and food as the music builds up in the afternoon, so you won't be shouting at each other over lunch.

If you're looking for slopeside, straight off the piste partying, then the Folie Douce will certainly fill your après ski cravings. The Folie Douce closes at around five in the afternoon, meaning you’re looking at a boozy ski back from the mid-station of the Saulire lift. If you’re not keen to ski down, you can always head off earlier and catch the lift back down the mountain.

2. Le Rond Point

Sat just above Meribel, the Rond Point - affectionately known as Ronnie's - is a legendary bar for live music and piste-side parties seven days a week. Here you can expect a huge ski in, ski out terrace, great food and an excellent offering of toffee vodka.

Comprising a decent mix of locals and tourists, Ronnie's hosts a house band every afternoon from five until half six and the bar closes at half seven just in time for chalet dinners. If you don't fancy the ski back down to Meribel after all that partying, there's a free and very regular bus service that runs back to town (plus, stops on the Chalet Ophelia road, if you’re staying with flexiski).

It's pretty much a cult bar, drawing crowds from all over the Three Valleys, so if you want a table you may need to rock up early. It’s certainly one to be tried at least once on your next ski break in Meribel.

3. Jack's Bar

The self-proclaimed 'social hub of Meribel' brings lively après ski, homemade pizzas and cocktails to the centre of Meribel. At the bottom of the slopes just across from the Chaudanne ski lift, Jack's is in a brand new location for 2019/20 (admittedly only across the street from where it was two years ago).

Happy hour is from four until five in the afternoon and kicks off the après before the live music starts at five (Monday to Friday). The après is extended on Wednesdays (the typical chalet night off) and runs until half eight.

Jack’s is below the Chalet Hotel Les Grangettes and if you're staying here you can put your bar tab on your room - which sounds pretty dangerous to us. On top of all the music, food, and general merriment, Jack's also brings world-class comedians to the mountains, perhaps adding something a little different to your usual après ski offering.

4. Lodge du Village

Up in Meribel Village the Lodge du Village (LDV) is located at the end of the blue Lapin run. This is the buzzing heart of the resort and features a huge outdoor terrace (or umbrella bar for when the weather draws in) with views that rival the best in the area.

Open all day for coffee and snacks, Lodge du Village is also a great spot for lunch. Things really ramp up when the happy hour finishes and the live music kicks off at five in the afternoon. The fun continues at the Lodge way after the lifts close and you can carry on the party here until two in the morning, with DJs picking up where the live music ends.

As Lodge du Village is up in the village rather than the main town, you may need to catch the bus back down to the resort. Buses run every twenty minutes until midnight, though, so there's no bother there. This place is of our favourite bars in Meribel as it offers more of a small resort vibe - hands down the best bar around in Meribel Village.

5. O'Sullivans

Arguably the go-to bar once the après has ended, O’Sullivans is undoubtedly the big dog in Meribel's nightlife scene. A ten minute walk from the centre of the resort, here you'll find some of Meribel's biggest parties. Though it opens at ten you probably don't want to get here much before midnight (when the free entry stops). At midnight, O’Sullivans’ cave-like interiors start to get into full swing with non-stop resident DJs, live music and theme nights to have you dancing ‘til dawn.

Perhaps not one for the early risers among you (as the party goes on until four), O’Sullivans is a great option to carry on the vibe if you're having a big night. Before it was reborn as Sully’s, this club was formerly the infamous Dick's Tea Bar. Just keep an eye on the events calendar and make sure you’re ready for a big one.

6. Doron Pub (Le Pub)

Located right in the centre of Meribel (just up from the tourist office and beside the elevator that takes you to the slopes), the Doron Pub is another bar that gets lively later on. It's a huge space with a great sun terrace and big screens showing plenty of sport. Doron Pub is the perfect spot to catch the football whilst you're away. Live bands are also a regular feature here and there’s a huge bustling space to get dancing or hanker in for a spot of pool.

7. Copiña

Copiña is a lively tapas bar with great cocktails, craft beers and plenty of wine. An après hot spot, Copiña provides an authentic Spanish dining experience in the centre of the resort. Sister to the lively Jack's Bar, Copiña offers a far more laid back atmosphere.

The range of drinks and tapas is impressive. They offer cocktails to actually get excited about, delicious beer and a wide selection of wines. Many of the tapas ingredients are even sourced from Iberia in Spain. Copiña provides a deliciously low-key dining experience in a relaxed setting, perfect after a tough day on the slopes. This bar is open from five until two in the morning.

There's a happy hour every evening from seven until nine where all cocktails are seven euros, plus, a ‘midnight hour’ where house spirit mixers are 20% off.

And that's a wrap!

If you need more selection than these on your Meribel après bonanza there are plenty of alternatives. Low-key options such as the sophisticated Barometer with separate bar and lounge areas serve arguably the best pizzas in town. Le Rastro up in Mottaret is good for a bluebird day drink or Cafe del Mott has great BBQ food and a hot tub on the terrace. La Taverne opposite Doron Pub is another lively option. The list really does go on and on because Meribel's après ski and nightlife scene is certainly a lively one.
