Chalet Des Cascades Named World's Best New Ski Chalet 2018
WE WON!
Well, our Chalet des Cascades in Les Arcs won to be precise. The Best New Ski Chalet in the World 2018! (According to the World Ski Awards).
Not only is Chalet des Cascades ski in, ski out it's right in the middle of the piste. We were as surprised as anyone about just how good the location is. It makes for a truly unique ski experience in one of France's largest linked ski areas. Just check out the Tripadvisor reviews if you don't believe us. It's almost definitely the best location in Les Arcs. The terrace spills out onto the ski slopes and the town of Arc 2000 is only 150m across the piste. You won't have to walk in your ski boot for a single step.
The Chalet des Cascades has won the World's Best New Ski Chalet 2018 and there's plenty of reasons why:
Ski in, ski out - you can ski from the door to the St. Jacques ski lift below
The heated ski room (the whole chalet has heated floors as well) exits directly onto the slopes, so clip in and get going. You'll be straight onto the nursery slopes, so there's no issue for any level of skier. Access back to the chalet is also from a green run above so no dodgy return runs at the end of the day. On arrival, the chalet team will meet you to take your bags across the slopes to the chalet. Depending on the time of day you may be able to hitch a lift in the skidoo, or your bags will at least. Recently being named amongst the 20 sexiest ski chalets in Europe by The Times the chalet lives up to the hype.
Mountain views from every room
There are no sneaky premiums for mountain views when the chalet has 360-degree views of the slopes. Each of the 7 rooms has spectacular mountain views, however, the best is saved for the communal areas and the front terrace. Light floods through the expansive glass frontage of the chalet into the communal lounge come dining area with a central fireplace and floating glass bottomed mezzanine above. Once the lifts are closed the chalet really comes alive with uninterrupted sunset views followed by some spectacular stargazing on a clear nights sky.
Rooms to sleep 14 most comfortably
There are 5 standard double/twin rooms as well as a master suite taking up the entire width of the chalet at the rear and a junior suite as well. Each room is ensuite and with mountain views. The master suite even has a living wall above the bath.
Short breaks as well as longer stays
Whilst almost every other chalet in Les Arcs is exclusively booked for 7 nights, similar to the majority of chalets in Europe. However, the Chalet des Cascades can be booked for flexible stays throughout the entire ski season, included Christmas, New Year and February half term. You can book three or four nights all season long, and 7-night stays are also always available. So whether you're looking for a weekend romantic getaway, a mid-week work trip or a family break in the holidays the chalet is sold on a room by room basis or sole occupancy. Whichever you prefer.
There's always the swimming pool and sauna for the end of the day
The ski in, ski out location and spectacular views aren't the only drawing point for the chalet. There's also a heated indoor pool with counter current jets to swim against in the rear of the building. The sauna is there as well, and don't worry you don't have to get nude to use it. The tiled floors have underground heating so toasty toes all day long, no cold feet in the mornings. There's also a TV room connected to the floating mezzanine chill-out area so you can watch movies in the evenings curled up with a huge bowl of popcorn.
It's the little details like the luggage collection, Mont Blanc beer on tap and bubbles with your canapes each evening that help to make Chalet des Cascades special
The board basis includes beer and wine each evening. Glasses of bubbly are served with the pre-dinner canapes and there's always a cheese board for some post-dinner snacking. You can watch the chef prepare your dishes from the open show kitchen and expect hot options and eggs aplenty in the mornings as well as cakes, cookies and all sorts of baked treats each afternoon after skiing.
And it's not just us that think the Chalet des Cascade is award-worthy, here are a few publications to sing its praises:
